Larimar Wire wrapped gemstone Oval Stainless Steel Figaro Chain Necklace

This is an oval Larimar gemstone, 1 1/2 by 1 inch.  It is wrapped in silvertone wire and has a charming silverstone seahorse in silvertone riding on top.  It has an 18 inch stainless steel figaro chain with a lobster claw clasp.  

The Larimar gemstone is mined from only one place in the world, the Domican Republic.  The natural coloring varies from bluish white, light blue, light green, to a tourquoise blue or dark green.

The stone was named by Miguel Mendez who combined his daughter Larisssa's name with the Spanish word "mar" meaning sea, due to its ocean-like color. It was rediscoverd in 1974 in the Domican Republic after being initally found in 1916.  A rare stone.
